pressure by insurance carriers, monetary outlay to pursue past dues, and the fee dispute
provision contained in the firm’s underlying engagement letter.

Consumer Credit Fairness Act
May 10, 2022
This webinar was to explain the act, which was signed into by Governor Kathy Hochul in November and largely went into effect in May, changed rules around consumer debt collection. Some changes, such as the reduction of time to collect consumer credit transactions, went into effect earlier this year. The law also mandates new consumer debt collection requirements, including additional information in court filings about the past-due debt.
