A recent change in Court procedures is the implementation of mandatory Electronic Filing in most Supreme Court cases.
Effective February 27, 2012, pleadings and papers, including Judgments and payment of requisite filing fees, must be submitted online.
A benefit of E-filing is the reduction of time needed to process Court documents. Attorneys no longer have to put on their sneakers and run to the courthouse to file papers. Now filing can be done at the touch of a button.
For example, mailing a Summons and Complaint to the Court took days to be filed. With Electronic Filing, the Summons and Complaint is filed the same day. Even better, the return time on entry of Judgments, in some cases, has been reduced to a day or two. With manual filing the process took weeks, even months. E-filing has proven to be a powerful tool in reducing the amount of time spent obtaining a Judgment and getting you paid.
